Collaboration and Argument

Collaboration has its’ share of advantages and disadvantages. This should go without saying, but sometimes the challenges and strengths of a team in writing are different than many anticipate. If every member thought alike there could be expected a predictable and symmetrical outcome. Since this is rather impossible to manage, most people would assume that the end results may be frequently negative and chaotic. However, a group’s differences can provide for unique approaches. Complimentary combinations of members’ talents allows for the possibility of fantastic results, surpassing what lone individuals are capable of. This takes leadership and teamwork to achieve though. Analysis of what makes a great team successful can provide a path for others to follow in their own group endeavors.

Division of elements within an assignment is a critical part of collaborative efforts. This must also happen with regard to research and source acquisition. A lone writer need only concern themselves with their own objectives, but in collaboration the overall agenda and the division of tasks has to be considered. The information and sources sought after should be of importance to everyone and not just one member (Dale, H., 1994). This may depend though, on various concerns set forth by the leader and group consensus. Perhaps only one member is assigned with research for the whole group or maybe each member must seek their own. Regardless, all of the sources and information must mesh well with team concerns. This puts a critical burden on members to be thorough in their fact checking and validation of sources for creditability. To prevent a mistake from tearing apart the paper’s arguments, someone ultimately should verify everything used in the paper. Links and trails that were used in the research process should be noted and made available to the group editor.
