Pastoral Farming is better than Large Scale Organic Farming

The word organic has been sweeping across the nation the last few years. Ten years ago there was no such thing as “certified organic”. As the nation struggles with a somewhat national eating disorder people have been continuously trying to eat a little healthier. Organic foods seem to be the way to go when it comes to eating healthy. What exactly does it mean, however, to have a label on your food that says organic? How is the food different than food that doesn’t have that organic label embossed on the package? The word organic is a classification that is placed on food that has been manufactured through approved procedures that incorporate cultural, biological, and mechanical practices. These procedures nurture reuse of resources, promote ecological balance, and conserve biodiversity. Man-made fertilizers, sewage sludge, irradiation, and genetic engineering may not be used in the production of organic products. There are two different types of organic farmers, but one is far superior to the other. Small pastoral farming is by far better for the environment and healthier for the people than big industrial organic farming.

First off, large organic farming is just as good for the environment as small organic farming. Large organic farms that produce organic crops introduce large amounts of wholesome food into our food chain. The products created by a large scale organic farm are much better for the environment than industrial commercial farming crops. People present this argument all the time, but the fact of the matter is that it is not true. Large organic farmers use a tremendous amount of fossil fuels getting the items needed to produce their crops. As a result, this amount of fuel puts more pollutants in the atmosphere decreasing the quality of the air we breathe. Large scale organic farms also use large...
