Unit 2 Study Guide Answers

1. The parts of an atom would be the protons, neutron, and electrons. The protons and neutrons are found in the nucleus of the atom. The electrons are found in the outer shell of the nucleus, also known as the electron cloud.

2. The atomic mass is the mass of the whole atom, it‘s the mass of the protons and neutrons. Atomic number is just the number protons in an atom.

3. An isotope is an element that is the same, but has different number of neutrons and therefore has different atomic mass. An example of an isotope would be Magnesium 24 and Magnesium 25. They are isotopes because magnesium 25 has one more neutron than magnesium 24.

4. The three basic types of chemical bonds is ionic, covalent, and hydrogen. Ionic bonds form between atoms with opposite electrical charges. Covalent bonds are bonds that...
