Here is the report you requested April 19 on Devon’s current IT infrastructure along with a recommendation for change.
After the Information Technology (IT) analyzed the current information system, it became clear that a major change in the information system could benefit Devon greatly. The oil and gas industry faces many challenges in today’s economy. Some of these modern day challenges include increasing regulation, price volatility, and the industry shift from exploration to exploitation. Thus, Devon is forced to find ways to remain competitive.
After the IT finished their research, they concluded that changing our servers to Windows Server 2008 R2 and our computers to Windows 7 would provide the necessary advantages to remain competitive. Some of these benefits include better remote connectivity, increased collaboration abilities, and enhanced security. All these benefits combined will yield increased worker productivity and reduced costs. For these changes to be effective the organization must be prepared.
In order for the transition to go smoothly the organization must be prepared and after implementation Devon must stay committed to managing revisions. To prepare the organization, the IT will work with departments to discuss their specific needs. During implementation IT personnel will work with employees to train them and assure their needs are met. This transition will not be easy and will take commitment from all levels of management.
