Affordable Health Care

Affordable health care is a major concern for most Americans today. With the high cost health care services across the nation, Americans can’t afford to go to health care facilities. So what are our fellow citizens going to do when they become ill and can’t afford to go into a facility for treatment? Most likely they will suffer with their illness unless our government provides us with some type of affordable health coverage. In 2009, the Obama administration began working on options to control the cost of health care. They broke the issues down into four areas of concern: cost control and the recession, the politics of cost control, Obama’s cost control instruments, and controlling medical spending. Let’s start with cost control and the impact of the ongoing current recession put a strain on our economy. Millions of Americans lost their jobs and their insurance coverage, which resulted in many of them having to depend on Medicaid to pay for medical services. As a result it put a strain on the state’s deficit to pay for those services (Marmor, Oberlander, White, 2009, para. 4). Now we can expand on into the politics of cost control. Our country hasn’t faced a health care cost crisis since four decades ago when President Nixon was in office in 1969 (Marmor, Oberlander, White, 2009, para. 8). The question now is “How do we fix it”? This is where the Obama administration starts strategizing proposals. One is to improve medical practices and health outcomes and the other is restructuring the health insurance marketplace. Finally they reflect on the issues on how to control medical spending. The Obama administration suggests lowering the price for medical care to control cost.
