Describing the Culture of Store Crafters, Inc.

This paper will present an overview of describing the culture of Store Crafters, Inc. It will analyze the cultures that have been implemented in the company using information from the text and other credible sources. I never realized how important culture was within a company.

Culture represents a relatively fixed organizational element that reflects the organization’s history. Culture consists of the symbols, rituals, language, and social dramas that highlight organizational life, including myths, stories, and jargon (Smircich, 1984, & Baack D, 2012). Symbols include the golden arches at McDonald’s, the Intel tune played in commercials, a Star of David in a synagogue, or an elephant designating a Republican. Rituals include joining ceremonies and commencement activities, such as the Doctorate of Hamburgerology granted to graduates of the McDonald’s manager training program, Hamburger University. Language includes company-specific acronyms and terms. In the world of Disney, a crowd at a theme park is an “audience” and a work shift is a “performance.” Social dramas emerge from promotion decisions, termination decisions, and disciplinary actions. Culture consists of shared meanings associated with the symbols, rituals, and language, (Baack, 2012).

The symbol for Store Crafters is a large green S and C joined together and outlined in gold. This symbol represents the power and wealth that the company holds from creating a reputable brand throughout the years. A ritual that is held at Store Crafters is joining at the local country club when someone has completed a major task that created a major profit or completing a training program that will help the employee become more of an asset to the company.
