Organizational Structure Change

As a manager, it is necessary to understand the concepts and methods used to make changes to
an organization whether it is in distress or just in need of some structural alterations. By
examining both external and internal elements, the manager can select what types of changes
must be made. In this case, there are three problems this division of the company is currently
facing. Outdated product lines, adversarial communication, and competition for internal
resources. This division needs to be turned around and it looks as if the problems are mostly
internal. Implementing a plan to change the organizational structure, and attacking each problem
1 by 1 is the only way to save this division of the company.
Let’s address the first problem in the division, which is an outdated product line.
Because the consumer is not purchasing our products, we need to look at our products and see
where we can update and improve them. I will task out the marketing department to research
similar products that our competitors are having success with. We need to find out what new
ideas they may have. We need to identify what the consumer is in need of and what they are
purchasing. Viewing customer ratings and comments is a great method in doing this. Then, we
must develop a way to provide a better product whether it is more modern or economical. This
will increase sales and began to shift the negative momentum.
Next, we can begin to neutralize the second problem and eliminate the adversarial
communication between employees. Because we are a company and a division we are a team.
We should have no adversaries, and there is no room for adversarial communication. The method
that can be used to eliminate this is called organizational development. This will allow us to
focus on the employees and their quality of interpersonal work...
