Review 2 Article: “Financing the Future of Healthcare; Impact Analyses” by Meyer, Angela

The article is a comprehensive analysis on the impact of the various components of healthcare financing in future. It begins by raising the question of how healthcare will be financed in the United States in the year 2013 and in the future (Meyer 1). This is a question that has risen as a result of the complexity that has continued to arise in the projections of the costs of delivery in the sector. The economy has been on a downfall and seemingly, the healthcare providers have not been spared. The article elaborates the uncertainty in the health sector by citing that experts at the Center for Medicare and Medicaid (CMS) has failed to agree on the most appropriate value to be attached to future healthcare expenditures (Meyer 1).

The article further clarifies the situation by indicating that physician expenditures have risen above the overall projects and will continue to rise. This has been attributed to various factors that have also affected the reimbursement of physicians. They include inaccurately quoted practice expense relative units, inappropriate multiple procedure payment reduction, devalued global surgical packages among other factors. These factors are likely to lead to a rise in the costs of financing in the healthcare sector because of the risks they are likely to bring in the sector. Healthcare providers should therefore be wary and put in place strategies to cope with them.

Among the correctional strategies or programs that are cited in the article to counter the issue of financing in the year 2013 and beyond include establishment of Accountable Care Organizations, medical recovery audit contractors, hospital quality improvement among others.
