“The Risk Associate With Alcohol Use and Alcoholism”

Jurgen Rehm indicated, “this article first defines which conditions necessarily are caused by alcohol use and for which condition alcohol use is a contributing factors . . . it looks more closely at the most common diseases risk associate with excessive alcohol . . . and concludes with a discussion of the alcohol-related risk of harm to people other than the drinker” (135). In this article, we find out what are some of the risks associated with alcohol. A alcohol use and alcoholism are one of the bigger health problems. It causes many disease and injuries. “Alcohol consumption has been identified as an important risk factor for illness, disability, and mortality” (Rehm 135). It is important to know that consumption of alcohol is not a game because it could cause death. People can get any kind of disease or injuries such as infectious disease, cancer, diabetes, neuropsychiatric disease, cardiovascular disease, liver and pancreas disease and unintentional and intentional injury. All of these are some of the disease and injury categories caused by alcohol. This article also talks about the effects on people other than drinkers. “Drinkers also experience a range of social harms because of their own drinking including family disruption, problems at the work place (including unemployment), criminal conviction, and financial problems” (Rehm 141). We can learn in this article what to expect if we consume alcohol. Alcohol Consumption can have an effect on anyone in society, including those who do not even drink.
