American? Who’s truly an American? When you look at history in the past, do we ever refer to people as Americans or from their native countries? Last time I heard being American isn’t a race nor is it listed as on option when filling out any forms. Our country was solely built by immigrants migrating from most of Europe excluding the slaves that were relocated by the Atlantic slave trade. When the Europeans came and invaded into the America’s as many people say, “taking land from the Native Americans,” did they have any considerations for the Natives? Is the United States fight against immigration a precautious measure to what their ancestors did just a few hundred years ago? Originally proposed April 25, 2001 by Representative Luis Gutiérrez as the Immigrant Children's Educational Advancement and Dropout Prevention Act of 2001, permanent residency for aliens has been fought for. This bill received many cosponsors, and would have allowed illegal immigrant students to apply to be protected from deportation and then apply for and receive permanent residency if they met certain criteria’s. Less than 4 months later 2 representatives, Richard Durbin, a democratic US Senator from Illinois and Orrin Hatch, a republican US Senator from Utah, proposed in the United States Senate the DREAM act of 2001. The DREAM Act allows members who meet certain criteria to be have the opportunity to enroll in the military or an intuition of higher learning to induce their path to permanent citizenship.

Many may argue about allowing immigrants in the United States but the pros outweigh the cons. Allowing immigrants to work stimulates the economy, allows great minds to excel through education and even in some studies the increase in immigration has lowered the crime rate, rebuilt poor urban areas and even grown cities. Without the opportunity to higher education I believe you shoot yourself short of your actual ability. Does anyone really want to question whether someone “could” have...
