1. Describe the importance of employee benefits as a strategic component of fulfilling the goals of HRM at Genentech and Zappos. (10 points)

- The HRM is responsible for the attraction, selection, training, assessment, and rewarding of employees. Through employee benefits, the HRM fulfills their goals in making employees happy and content in working with the organization and it also fulfills the goals of HRM in keeping the turnover rates low and complaints low. For example, if I am an employee working in an organization which treats every employee without respect for their work, I wouldn’t want to work with that kind of organization and instead of doing my best I would be complaining and quitting my job because I am not getting the right compensation for my hard work. This goes for every employees working in an organization with that kind of environment. Employees are the ones working to keep the company running and earning profits so it is very important that employees are given the right compensation for their hard work. Especially if the work involves high paying rates. If the employees are happy and content in working with the company they would have good performances and most of all they would pledge their loyalty to that company until they retire. This strategy is what the organizations Genentech and Zappos used to give their employees the assurance of having the right compensation for their hard work. In keeping in line with this, you could say the employees are the gold makers of the company.

2. Give an example of an organization where you believe that the incentives and benefits such as those offered at Genentech and Zappos can be used. Briefly discuss why it is applicable in that type of organization. (10 points)
