Change Rationales

Find two articles about organizations going through change. Provide a complete APA citation for each article. Answer the following questions and respond to at least two of your classmates’ postings.

•What is the rationale presented for the changes?

For decades because of instability in the global business environment organizations often finds themselves facing the need to change their way of operations

For Kodak change was needed to expand cost structure reductions.

For SONY change was needed to have new management so that they may have a better digital image.

When an organization downsizes it is said to improve that organizations’ performance and by scaling down business processes, workforce and operational costs.

•Compare and contrast the rationales (reasons) from each article. What are the commonalities presented (What is the same)? Are some presented as more legitimate than others? (Are some of the reasons given more "weight" - are they more real or valid - than some of the other reasons?)

Inevitably each organization made different changes but to ultimately save the organization and have a better profit. Each had legitimate reasons after each organization did internal research they found what was needed to improve.

Some of the rationale and strategy presented are more legitimate than the others. If we take in the case of Sony the organization seem to understand the rationale well when they implemented downsizing as their strategy. It is important they cut down their production volume however since the problem is temporary the solution is also temporary. In addition Sony took involuntary downsizing with the participation and consultations of its employee.

Kodak seemed to focus on its image and competitiveness.

Therefore its legitimate to implement downsizing in the time of crisis however it should not only focused on the current issue but the long-term strategy to gain competitive advantage in the global market.
