Marketing

Personally marketing is defined as a tool to market products to consumers, customers, and clients. In my personal description of marketing it is necessary to remember that a company must have a department or a team that oversees the outside communication concerning the product or concept to be sold, in order to produce incentives or purchases. In researching the proper definition of marketing I found that the American Marketing Association Board of Directors (2004) has defined marketing as “an activity, set of institutions, and processes for creating, communicating, delivering, and exchanging offerings that have value for customers, clients, partners, and society at large.” Moreover, the Merriam-Webster Online Dictionary (2010) defines marketing as “an act or process of selling or purchasing in a market or a process or technique of promoting, selling, and distributing a product or service as well as an aggregate of functions involved in moving goods from producer to consumer.”

Organizational Success

Furthermore, marketing is about the strategies and tactics used to identify and cultivate the market for products and services, so it would be important to the overall organizational success. When selecting target markets the marketing person or team must have a process in place to acquire customers by creating and communicating ideals that would deliver superior value in order to have a sustainable competitive advantage. Therefore, in striving for success the marketing person or team must also have a product concept that will focus on well liked product, which will sell and be easily promotable. For instance, packaging is important it must be noticed among every similar product in the market. The marketing person or team must look at the type of brand, will it be trademark, will it have feature benefits, and will there be some type of warranty.
