My film is a drama and when constructing the narrative I took inspiration from ‘American Beauty’, whereby the audience are made aware of a characters death within the opening and the narrative progresses to tell the story leading up to the fatal moment. I hoped that this would trigger the audience’s curiosity, prompting unanswered questions thus engaging the audience. I also wanted to incorporate the idea of how large events are the consequence of a build up of smaller events, such as ‘The Curious Case of Benjamin button’ does in the scene where daisy is involved in a car accident. For example in my film the outcome could of been different had the character placed the letters or his phone somewhere else. I wanted to give my film an underlying meaning and demonstrate how seemingly minor actions and choices regardless of significance can have unforeseeable impacts.

Firstly to consider mise en scene the costume choice I made for the character was a suit, this suggests professionalism and maturity which contrasts nicely to the child like excitement the character shows in a bizarre turn of events. The suit also suggests to the audience that the character is coming home from work and therefore creates a relatable situation for a broad proportion of the audience provoking a greater emotional response to the events within the film. Also In terms of props the fake blood is used to dramatise the shots and add realism for the audience. The use of colour in the film is relatively grey and non vibrant, for the audience this is a reflection of the relatively mundane everyday situation the character is featured in and also creates a sombre atmosphere.

The use of cinematography in the opening includes many close up shots of the character, this helps to distinguish the main character and centralise the audiences focus onto them. A tracking shot from behind is also used this makes the audience feel as if they are following the subject and involved in the action and essentially...
