THE ROLE OF WOMEN IN MILITARY

All over the world, people consider military as the most dangerous department, and as such, these people consider women as weak to be given roles to serve within the military. The question I have been asking myself and I believe is worth thinking about is do women have a role to play in the military? Most of us have mothers, sisters, aunts or neighbors who are either in the military or planning to be in the military as their long term career. If there is such a person here, I want to confirm to you that what I will present today is most appropriate for you because you will begin to appreciate those women. This I will assure you because I have done extensive study to understand the role of women in the military where they serve various positions. In my presentation, I will give insights about women involvement within the military and try to change the negative perspective that blames women for many military ills. I will be exploring the history of their involvement, how blame has been put on women for ills that happen in the military, and finally talk about their major contribution in the military.

To begin with, many columnists have written in oppositions to women’s integration and blame them for many military ills including lack of readiness and aircraft crashes (Rita 6). This print media information gives the unpopular impression that women should not be trusted with sensitive military positions because they are not prepared to respond in time, and they have little knowledge of what happens within the military, and more specifically the Air Force. Anybody can be responsible for aircraft crashes as it has been the case from aircraft crashes, and therefore, these columnists should stop seeing it as a weakness emanating from the female gender.
