PLAYWRITING ASSIGNMENT OPTION 1

This is it. This is the view and general experience I was looking for when I told my father that I would join him on his business trip to South Korea. My father and I have never been one for emotional connection. He has always played the hard, authoritarian figure in my life. Although I do recognize his unconditional love, it was never openly shared. After a week’s worth of vacation time, this last setting feels like the perfect ending. My father and I hiked all morning to final get to the top of the mountain in Jeju Island, away from the urban parts of the island. I have never felt so relaxed from such a strenuous physical activity. Along the way, we both shared our interest in nature’s beauty. We stopped at multiple resting spots along the way to the top and discussed the free, simple lifestyle in the wild. He shared interesting stories about growing up in the rural parts of South Korea and how he came to America. Now I know why I’ve always had such an interest in nature. Now I feel like I am at peace, away from all the concerns, stress, and duties from normal life. The wind softly blows against my body and cools the light sweat running down my body. The sun is pleasantly warm and the sounds of the air and ocean waves crashing against the shoreline create a serene atmosphere. Looking down at the city area, I begin contemplating whether or not the busy lifestyle is for me. Do I really want to work in the corporate world? We’ll have to wait and see if my interests line up. For now, I can only enjoy these moments of peace with close members. My father has been taking a lot of pictures on this hike. I believe that he wants to remember these moments as long as he can. I do as well.
