Abstract

Kmart and Wal-Mart are two of the better-known American retailers. Both companies sell similar or equal products, cater to the same clientele, and are typically located within the same communities. However, there are many differences between these two companies, which is why they were chosen for this analysis. In this paper we will introduce Kmart and Wal-Mart, describe how they both started, and what their products are. We will also review various financial indicators for the past three years. Included will be some significant events that affect the statement of Cash Flows, changes in revenue, and important company ratios. From an investment standpoint, we will examine various stock market research figures that will give us an overall view of the financial standing of these corporations. Both companies are similar, yet different; one is failing while one succeeds. As we explore the financial data, we will assess the company’s financial strength, growth potential, and industry position with an intention to make an informed investment decision....
