Advantages and disadvantages of the European Union

European Union is a powerful organization watching over 27 countries in Europe. Its effects on these countries and other governments are ranging from market regulations, trade, wealth, security and the EU legislation(Bomberg,E.,Peterson,J.,Corbett,R.,2012). It brings great advantages in making a so called European Community, bringing countries together and integrating political reformations. At the same time, it is not easy holding it all together. It is an always changing process and brings confusions to many about what to think or how to think of the European Union.

This essay will provide an introduction to the European Union, where it all started, how it works and what good does it bring to the countries involved. This includes the significance of the Union and the impacts it has on trade, regulating markets, safety, economic and political prosperity. Different theories have been developed in understanding the integration of the European Union and the Union itself. Some of these are neo-functionalism, liberal intergovernmentalism and policy networks. Institutions have been built to create order between all the member states (Bomberg,E.,Peterson,J.,Corbett,R.,2012).

The European Union is constantly changing its treaties, legislations and policies. Such things can be beneficial to one country, as change gives room for less error to be made and for better improvement. On the other side, such changes to a whole Union made of 27 countries can cause controversies and confusions to the population about the purpose of the Union (McCormicK, J, 2008).The biggest problem the European Union is facing is the limited capacity it holds. Expansion might not give the same advantages, the security, wealth and stabilities the Union has in mind to offer.
