Purpose of Research

The primary purpose of the research for this project was to see how many people in the school of business knew who these prominent business leaders were. In a male dominated business world, there are many women who have beaten the odds and proved to become some of the highest ranked and successful executives and business owners in the history of business within the United States. The six business leaders that were studied were: Danica Patrick, Erin Callan, Sheryl Sandberg, Marissa Mayer, Sandra Day O’Conner, and Carley Fiornia. The students that were directly involved in the research were specifically male and female students of the marketing school of St. Edward’s. As business students, they should know some if not all of the important people who shape the business world. The study is to see if these college students have any knowledge of the individuals listed and I wanted to learn if some of these business professionals were more recognizable to this target group than others.

Expected Outcomes

I expect that some of the names will be more recognizable than others. For example, Danica Patrick should be very familiar among business students and males because of her model and racecar driving history.

1. One reason why students will know these names is because they are in the media. The generation that we live in is very technology based and that is how we get most of our news instead of reading the printed newspaper. A lot of these names are brought up in the news because of their importance to society.

2. Another reason the students might recognize these names are that maybe they came across them in one of their classes. As a business student, whether male or female, the general business...
