EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING: LEADERSHIP ISSUES
Many organizations are facing the need to adapt to numerous complex issues and manage change to remain competitive throughout the twenty-first century business environment. In the face of such challenges, inspirational leaders with vision, represent a style of leadership that maybe capable of navigating organizations through the chaos of the twenty-first century. The immediate thought that comes to my mind is former Xerox CEO, Anne Mulcahy, a transformational, charismatic leader who led her company from the depths of disparity because she had a vision and a plan for the future through the strengthening of its core business, restructuring its focus on competitiveness, and cash generation.
From the lessons learned, by Anne Mulcahy while serving as Xerox CEO, two distinct traits are critically important to leaders, vision and communication. She said vision, answers, what does the future look like. Communication, you cannot communicate enough during adverse times, face-to-face dialogue…there is no substitute. In my leadership development process with many organizations, senior leaders have always expressed their vision as the roadmap for the organization’s path forward and the rally point for its followers. Developing excellent communication skills is paramount for a leader to articulate his vision and be effective. Clear communication from a confident leader, when expressed with sincerity and passion, can be motivating to followers.
