HYPOTHESIS

Tattooed and pierced individuals receive different reactions (more in a negative light) from others when they are out on the town. If you have tattoos and/or piercings, depending upon which side of town you are on, then you will receive negative reactions.

Observation #1: Unmarked/Unpierced Person

Since there is no way that I can hide my tattoos or piercings, my friend Ashlee went into Macy’s at Perimeter Mall looking for different things. She first ventured off into the women’s clothing section looking for a cocktail dress. As soon as she stepped foot into the section, Anna, came rushing to her side asking if she needed help with anything. She explained to Anna that she is looking for a cocktail dress to wear to a party Saturday night. She explained how she imagined the dress to look and fit on her. Anna was VERY excited to help her. Ashlee was there and tried on about 3-4 different dressed until she decided on a dress. Anna was very eager to run and get different sizes and even call over shoes for Ashlee. Ashlee paid for her dress then wandered over to the perfume section. Gabe very eagerly ran to her side to see exactly what she was looking for. He spent about 10 minutes showing her different perfumes until she decided on one. He was more than pleased to assist her with whatever she was looking for. Ashlee waved her goodbyes to everyone, which they returned and headed out the store.

Observation #2: Tattooed/Pierced Person

I walked into Macy’s about an hour or 2 later and headed straight to the women’s section. Once over there, I saw that Anna was still working. I knew this was her because Ashlee snuck a photo of her so I knew who to go to. I was wearing a outfit that revealed ALL my tattoos.
