The United States spends more than 7.7 billion dollars to keep marijuana off the streets (Head, 2011). This money is footed through the taxpayers who pay for peaceful people who like to get high to go to jail, their attorney fee, their healthcare, their food, their housing and other expenses to lock them up (MLO, 2002). According to a 2007 George Mason University study, U.S. citizens each year spend about $113 billion on marijuana. Of which, the entire revenue made goes directly to an underground economy and goes untaxed. If marijuana were to be legalized it can be taxed and considerable revenue can be generated from this. Intern this can help in aiding the government more money to spend on grim issues such as knocking down harder drugs, rape, murder or even greaten the nation by using the money for its development. Producing some form of tax revenue is better than no revenue at all.

Furthermore legalization would take away the control that the demonic underworld has over the industry. Presently the industry is controlled by drug cartels (including some terrorist); since they have no competition in the field they make enormous profits, as there are many risks involved in the transaction. Also these mobs are known to adulterate the product by lacing it with harmful addictive substances to increase quantity and ‘quality’. Now if marijuana were legalized it would result in these cartels loosing all or some of their business. This can be replaced with legitimate corporations controlling this business.
