The teachings of Daoism are inspirational they focus on the inner virtue of oneself and not on the outward expression, which Confucianism emphasizes. In Daoism, it is important for one to maintain a healthy lifestyle and carves one’s own path through life for the search for peace. The Three Jewels of Daoism are compassion, humility, and moderation, which all directly correlate with the ideals behind the importance of nature. Nature and being one with nature is extremely important in Daoism teachings, not necessarily by abandoning society per say but, by abandoning the desire for worldly possession and rejecting the need for praise for one’s good deeds. Being one with nature comes from the idea that nature supports us as individuals so we as individuals should nurture nature rather than exploit it and strip it from its resources. These teachings are synonymous with some monotheistic faiths in that Jesus does not force anyone to follow him or give specific instructions on how to reach heaven yet, urges everyone to make their own path to him, granted guidelines are set. The Bible also highlights that your body is your temple and causing harm to it is not advantageous as in Daoism beliefs one’s health is of extreme importance. Asian culture celebrates Daoism by adopting its teachings and integrating them with food culture. Food although seemingly menial is a driving force behind social and family gatherings it allows for connections to be formed throughout the world and represents a people distinctly. Daoism philosophies plays its role because its emphasis on health and longevity is clearly translated to Asian cooking which openly embodies the same focus. Daoism is also celebrated within Asian cultures in that it coexists with Confucianism and Buddhism as the one of the three most common religions. These philosophies intertwine and one individual can follow both religions, which is not uncommon within Asian Culture.
