Hello everyone and welcome my name is and we are going on a fantastic voyage for the first time in history. It is possible to take a trip inside the human body. The reason that this is even possible is because scientists have invented a shrink ray I know it sounds crazy and like something out of a sci-fi movie, but because of this marvel of technology, we are able to shrink down a full-size submarine and a team of physicians and even a few members of the media.

Our patient’s name is Melissa Hightower and she has agreed to grant us this unique chance to go inside her body and see what’s going on. Here we go! Upon injection. We are injected into the right femoral vein for those of you not acquainted with this vein. It is located in the upper right thigh and runs in close proximity to the femoral artery. The main function of the femoral vein is to return un-oxygenated blood from the feeds and legs up to the heart (Healthline, 2005- 2013). As for moving along, you will notice that we are moving in a nice pace even though the veins are narrow. We are coming up on the bifurcation, this is where the right femoral and less femoral veins meet up to form the inferior vena cava. The inferior vena cava is also referred to as the posterior vena cava. It is a vein that carries deoxygenated blood (Healthline editorial team, 2013). If you notice, we are traveling of in the direction of the heart anytime you are traveling against gravity. It has become very difficult and so we are forced to slow down our pace a little, but do not fear we will prevail. As you will notice there are valves to keep us from slipping back down the vein, but they also serve as a way to build up pressure allowing blood to move back to the heart for oxygenation (The Franklin Institute, 1996- 2013). “Wow”! Do you hear that beating? Looks like we’ve made it to the heart. Looking up ahead, I think I see the right atrium. Let’s get in there……whooosh in we go through the tricuspid valve into the right...
