Country of Iraq is the 58th largest country in the world with area of 168,754 sq mi. The country is mostly desert land and only has two major rivers that span across Tigris and Euphrates. (Briney ) The northern part of the country is mostly a mountain region. The country also has a small coast line of about 36 miles along the Persian Gulf. Iraq is surrounded by 6 other neighboring countries which include Iran, Kuwait, Syria, Saudi Arabia, Jordan and Turkey. In the past decade Iraq was engaged in political reform and a war with United States. The technological development in Iraq was under President Sadam Hussein who was convicted of nuclear and chemical weapons development, thus violating the U.N resolution 687. (Briney ) Although no weapons of mass destruction were found, the following wave of events that hit Iraq after 2003 were drastic. The most influential was that United States gained authority to govern Iraq. United States government excluded the people who belonged to the ruling party in Iraq and abolished the whole ministry. When U.S military finally withdrew its forces from Iraq, crime and violence went up significantly. Although in 2009 November, Iraqi minister officials reported that the number of civilian death has been lowest since the initial invasion of Iraq in 2003. (Briney ) Iraq government gained full control of its country from United States in June 2009.

The war with Iraq in 2003, devastated the country severely, suppressing the ability of development and continues terrorism outbreaks took away the ability for the country to advance in any technological development. Although the war with U.S ended, the country is still experiencing aftermath consequences. The new government of Iraq, elected in 2009 has concentrated on putting the country “back on its feet”.
