1. What is Homeroom Guidance?
Homeroom guidance designed to help students achieve greater self-awareness, self-understanding and self-acceptance with emphasis on interpersonal relationships and conflict resolution. It aims the formation of values, attitudes, study habits, social graces, and leadership skills of a child. Human sexuality and drug education are also emphasized. Career planning and decision making activities are also given to prepare the students for university life.
2. Different Guidance Models
* Guidance Led (GL) is a type where the guidance head prepares and designs the program. It is simply provided for homeroom advisors for delivery of services.
* Guidance Assisted (GA) is another model which is planned and developed by homeroom advisors assisted by year-level guidance coordinators.
* Homeroom Committee Counselors (HCC). Homeroom committee coordinators who are in-charge of each year level prepare this type, and its implementation is coordinated with the guidance head.
* Student-Led Model (SLM). This is a model where students and year-level homeroom advisors sit down together and plan the activities.
3. Steps in Homeroom Guidance Designs
* Preparation – The teacher assisted by a coordinating committee should plan the outline on the learner’s needs, set objectives, prepares activities; do the planning and review the available materials.
* Introduction- Everyone in the group should be involved. A clear set of instructions should explain the steps to be done in order to have an idea of how the guidance program will have to be.
* Activity – Students should understand the activities they would go through by relating these with their personal experiences.
* Debriefing - Students/ Clients are free to relate their experiences to others. A climate of oneness and acceptance must be greatly felt among the members of the group.
