Tablet Mark- A Workload for a Tablet Computers
Summary
Workload generation is commonly employed for performance characterization, testing and benchmarking of computer system. Workload generation typically aims in simulation of trafiic generated by different types of applications, activities such as browsing, audio, video etc. Most published research on system behavior and work load characterization are based on either laptop or desktop based system. It is reasonable to belive that user behaviours and workload are different for tablets based system. In this paper, we describe a workload for the tablet, directed principally at user behavior and system behavior.
Description of Problem
The aspects of a system design and optimization depend strongly on knowledge of or assumptions about the workload that the system is intended to do. Tablets are new emerging form factor, where there is no workload defined for it, the data available is for Laptop and Mobile segments. The most prominent Operating system used in tablet is Android, Windows 8 and IOS, and we have the typical workload like audio, video, browsing for all the three operating system. There is a need to develop a generic workload for all the tablets with windows and android operating system. We used Xperf, Matrix tool to monitor the Power management of the CPU, and the available data was modeled for further analaysis.
Solution
We developed a workload for tablet with these criterion in mind, first we are studying a ultra low power, mobile tablets and we wanted to collect those activities reflecting certain aspects of power consumtion-user activity. Secondly we are interested in generalizing the tablet workload for all the three operating system. This helps us to study the architecture of the operating system and focus on improvisation of the tablet user experience. There are 5 workloads identified in general for a tablet,
1. Playing an Audio.
2. Playing a Video, different formats.
