Summary Of Peace Warriors

In their essay “Peace Warriors’ author Amy and David Goodman concentrate unjust wars initiated by the US that eventually would raise a big concern among the military and soldiers. One of the immoral and wrong wars was the Iraqi war that forced some of the courageous soldiers to start an antiwar activities and go public criticizing the US government. When Augustin Aguayo, a 34 year old army medic allegedly denies to redeploy to Iraq expressing his act of conscious, the military forcibly insisted him to pack up his stuff and redeploy. Augustin had no choice but ran away. He had heard about the National Guard on radio and because of the promises he was given he joined the forces as a medic. Only two weeks of service a year, making some money and serving the country which would not interfere with his college sounded great to Augustin, but very soon he found out that he was getting more instructions how take lives rather than save them. After a year of service it was clear to Augustin that this was unjust and immoral and he decided that he “won’t be a tool of war anymore”. Although Augustin applies for conscientious objector (CO) status and gets a recommendation from the investigating officer, Pentagon denies his application. After a long fight for justice with the government and after he appeals his case to the US Supreme Court he was recognized as conscientious objector and was released in 2007. His courageous act was not the only one. Marine Corps Staff Sgt. Liam Madden was an Iraqi war veteran and he became an antiwar activist after he met an event organizer and Navy 3rd Class Petty Officer Jonathan Hutto. Together they craft a simple Appeal for Redress and post online gathering over 2000 signatures from military personnel of active duty among which were around 300 officers.
