Mobile computing is quickly becoming widespread throughout multiple industries and the medical field is one of the main clients adopting this technology. The success of this technology is focused around the ability to move around with your device, easily accessible, computerization of forms and workflow charts minimizes the duplication of effort, real time communication, and overall better patient care. Mobile technology in the medical industry is growing with enthusiasm and making the medical staffs jobs easier.

All areas of the health care field are important; monitoring vital signs is at the top of the list. Monitoring patient vital signs has changed significantly from in-patient visits to using mobile computing. Monitoring vital signs includes multiple areas of concern, heart rate, blood pressure, oxygen levels, and more. As noted by (Zimmerman, 2011) of these can now be monitored remotely and save the patient valuable time from traveling all the way to the doctor’s office and getting all of these vitals checked in person. Another added benefit to mobile computing is the accuracy of the documentation. When a person is manually writing everything down and then later transferring it to a computer, there is a lot of room for error. Miscalculations can even be life threating. By incorporating conveniences such as the iPad, the nurse, technician, or monitoring device itself is now adding the information directly into the systems leaving less room for error. According to (Adil, 2012) the healthcare industry is thoroughly embracing the mobile technology platforms but they are being seen as behind the times. There has been a large push to create medical applications to help enhance the medical communities’ use of iPads and other mobile computing platforms.
