In his brief period her on earth, he produced poems that rank him as one of the great English Poets. Love is my religion- I could die for it- John Keats was known for his romanticism. Many thought that after John Keats died so would his poetry. Keats belonged to a literary movement called romanticism. Keats struggled against the obstacles of limited education, poor health, and the death of his parents at an early age.

His mother, Francis Jennings Keats died from tuberculosis the disease that eventually claims two of her sons. John Keats is left in the care of his grandmother, who in return signs guardianship to Richard Abbey. Abbey pulled Keats from Einfield and apprentices him to a surgeon in Edmondson, London. After four years of as an apprentice Keats began his medical study at Guy’s Hospital in London. Privately he started to write poetry. Keats wrote his first poem collection in 1817 upon the completion of Endgmion, his first major long poem; At this point his love of poetry became his main ambition and his surgical career was left behind. Richard Abbey and Keats had a big falling-out once Keats decided to abandon his medical career, so that he can focus on his poetry.

In 1816 Keats became serious about writing poetry. He met Leigh Hunt, who encourages him, while becoming a great influence on John Keats. Hunt was the editor of a liberal paper 'The Examiner, which published Keats first poem called 'Ode to Solitude'

In 1818 his brother Thomas dies of tuberculosis. Keats soon finds out that he too has symptoms of tuberculosis. It is said that Keats wanted his poetry published for financial reasons. The poem was received as being acceptable and a good attempt, but it wasn't till later in the year when his poem 'On First Looking on Chapman's Homer,' that his potential and talent as a poet was known and it gave him the reputation as the poet to watch.
