For me, Irrationality is a part of being a human. Irrationality is something that you know is not good for you or is not an ideal option to choose but you still go ahead with it. The question here is what causes this kind of illogical behavior. Understanding human brain is a very complex and near to impossible task, humans while making a decision do not necessarily think in a logical and obvious manner. They do consider the points which if explained to another person might completely disagree with the weightage the decision maker is giving to that particular point in his option evaluation. This is what being a human means that you do something which makes no apparent sense to the world but in your mind it is completely logical. This Irrationality is what makes a human different from another human being. If every person started being rational in this world, they will be so predictable and same.

Every person has a different journey and different experiences, which plays an important role in how they think and which points they value more while making a decision. This difference in thinking, this irrationality is what made the human race grow into what it is now rather than damaging its current or future prospects.

For example, a kid who loves to play football (soccer) and dreams of becoming a professional will choose to play football over let’s say studying. If you look at this example from a rational prospective, the kid should study instead of playing football because the chances of him making at the level are very less, if you look at the percentage of kids trying to play football professionally and actually making it at the top level. Studying would be a more feasible and logical option. Rationality do not account for the happiness he gets from playing and trying to fulfill his dream. If every person thinks rationally than there would be no Messi and no Ronaldo.
