b) Describe the skills the CEO should look for when recruiting a project manager and explain why they are important.

* Strong communication skills

The ability to communicate across the organization is a key skill. The project manager needs to be able to effectively communicate with every level of employee-starting from lower level staff until the top position manager. They will also need to be able to communicate effectively with individuals from a different cultural background. Getting to know those individuals that we are going to communicate with is essential for a successful communications. They also need to understand how people want to be communicated with, how much they want to know and when. This is important as a project manager need to communicate with the team members whenever is essential and need to ensure that the member received the message clearly.

* Build strong relationships

The ability to build strong long-term relationships with others within and external to the organization is the key to successfully managing projects. The best project managers develop relationships before they need them. Get to know others by introducing their own self and then starting to learn about the opposite party, share ideas, thoughts, and also best practices. It had been said that it is important to build a strong relationship in order to ensure a smooth flow of project activities.

* Cultural understanding

There are so many different cultures represented in the Malaysia (Chinese, Indians, Kadazan, Sarawakian ) and for many people, while at home – they speak their native language and observe cultural practices. I find it fascinating to learn about others and what is the “norm” for their culture. When a project manager knows where one are coming from, then they can more easily understand them and work with them.
