Abstract

The Islamic religion is an established religion with many traditions that was built upon a strong faith and following. There are many misconceptions about the Islamic faith and Muslims that are born as usual out of ignorance or less than enough information. I am attempting to shed more light on a large organized religion and hopefully help inform some of those who have not had a lot of experience with this religion as well as learn more about the Islamic religion myself. I will be detailing as much as I possibly can in order to help understand the complexities of this religion and its followers.

Islam is a religion based upon many beliefs. One being that the creator of the world i.e. God is one and alone to be worshipped. The literal meaning of Islam is peace, the surrender of one’s will, surrendering of one’s own pleasure for the pleasure of God, losing oneself for the sake of God.

People belonging to the nation of Islam are Muslims. Muslims have five main duties to perform or the Five Pillars. These duties include, bearing witness to the Unity of God and Muhammad as his messenger, observing Ramadhan and keeping with the ritual fasts, the pilgrimage to Mecca, observing the prescribed prayer and payment of Zakat.

Muslims observe God in the form of his proper name Allah. There is no God but Allah himself, all sustaining and self-subsisting. The human mind cannot possibly comprehend every aspect of Allah. There are attributes associated with Allah commonly recognized by the followers in the Nation of Islam.
