A Teachers Role:

The Teacher is like an oil lamp, if its flame is steady and bright a hundred lamps can be lit by it, without in any way diminishing its brightness. For ensuring the brightness of the lamp, it is necessary that the wick be in good order and the oil supply be sufficient. What is a teacher? Exactly How much impact or influence does the teacher have on the pupil? Is the teacher to blame when the student does not quite understand the material or the students? “You wake up every morning and you know 46,000 kids are counting on you. And most of them are getting a crappy education right now and you have the ability to do something about it.”-Michelle Rhee, Washington Dc, school chancellor. Teacher plays a major piece to the puzzle which determines where a child will end up. Coaches teach the players game, give the basics and the layout for it. However the coach cannot go out and play the game for them; Just as a teacher teaches but they cannot learn for the student. However it is up to the teacher to present the material and ensure that each student receives it. The primary role of a teacher is to be an educator. Students are in school to learn and it is the teacher’s responsibility to ensure a well-rounded education.

Learning can be done in many different capacities; however, it takes a strong blend of certain personal characteristics and instructional techniques to become an effective teacher. Students are as different as snowflakes, each with many characteristics different than the next. To use the analogy of a key and lock, the key being the presentation of the material and the lock being the students. Many teachers try to use the same key on 25 different locks. It is up to the teacher do away with the “here is the material…learn it” method of teaching and start considering the differences between one student’s ability to learn to the next.
