SUPPLIERS OF NEWS

In India, there are two English news agencies, the Press Trust of India and the United News of India, which are the main suppliers of domestic or national news to the Indian Press.

The Press Trust of India (PTI) was born after India’s Independence as a success to the famous Associated Press of India (API).

Foreign (or) International news agencies, which supply news to Indian newspapers, are or mainly four in members.

They are:- 1. Reuters

2. Associated Press

3. Agence France Presse.

4. United Press International

PTI has an arrangement with Reuters, AFP, UPI for purchase of news, UNI has a similar deal into AP. PTI, and UNI have bilateral understandings with national news agencies of some important Countries and Yugoslavia who supply new from their countries in return for news from India.

Reuters, which is perhaps the oldest news agency has been supplying news to newspapers in India from its very inception 130 years ago.
