American Football vs. American Soccer

While American Football and American Soccer are both popular sports, they differ in history, impact on fans, and economic importance.

Even though there several sports in the United States, American Football seem to enjoy the most following and support base by its fans and the country as a whole. However, American Soccer seems to find its place in society since its inception. Gradually Americans seem to warm themselves to the concept and ideology of American Soccer making Chris willian statement: “Soccer is in the shadows of the NFL”, a thing of the past.

The history of American football can be traced back to the 19th century, to early versions of rugby and association football. This can be traced back to several divergences from rugby, and most importantly the rule change by Walter Camp, famously regarded as the “Father of American Football’. (http:// www.sportsology.net). Walter Camp helped established most rules that exist in the game today, notably the line of scrimmage and of down-and-distance rule. The merger of both the American Football League and the National led to the creation of the Super Bowl, which would become the most watched television event in the United States on annual basis. Since the game of Football has a large following its impact on its fans is enormous. American Football comes with a lot passion and sometimes becomes the opium of the masses. According to "USA Today," the 2010 Super Bowl between the Indianapolis Colts and New Orleans Saints had a record 106.5 million viewers.
