Almost every manager in will be faced with various types of conflict among employees at some point in time. Disputes between employees are almost inevitable in today’s business world. However, if left unresolved, conflicts among employees can cause disruption within a company or department, a decrease in productivity, poor morale, and even employees leaving the company voluntarily.
Conflicts arise from differences in opinions especially when individuals work together. Conflict is not always destructive, if handled correctly conflict can prove to be beneficial. To avoid the negative impacts that can result from such disagreements one of the most important methods of resolving conflict is to deal with disputes quickly and openly. Team A will discuss the use of mediation to resolve the conflict between Joe and Charles. Team A will also discuss the contingency resolution of collaboration when or if mediation does not resolve the conflict.
A Senior Vice President of operations and Chief Operating Officer of Seatcor, which is a major producer of office furniture, is facing a debilitating feud among two associates. The feud is between Joe Gibbons, who is the Vice President and General Manager of the largest desk plant for the company and has worked for Seatcor for 38 years, and Charles Stewart who is the Vice President that has worked for Seatcor only a year. Charles feels that Joe has left him out of important planning processes intentionally. This situation calls for a serious intervention.
