b. Unethical behavior as a police officer is on the rise due to many police officers not dealing with anger their anger issues.

c. Many officers don’t know they have an anger issue.

d. Knowing what anger is, understanding why we get angry, and learning how to deal with anger can help prevent unethical police behavior.

Understanding Anger before its Too Late

Police Officers have one of the toughest jobs in the United States. On a daily basis, Police Officers put their lives on the line in order to protect the rights of all Americans. Unethical police behaviors are on the rise due to police officers not being able to control their anger. Many officers don’t even know they have an anger issue before it’s too late. They just sum it up to a rough day on the job. Knowing the meaning of anger, understanding why we get angry, and knowing the different anger styles and learning how to deal with them will help eliminate unethical police behavior.

Anger is how people naturally respond physically and mentally to threats, and it inspires powerful, often aggressive feelings that allow people to fight when they are attacked (Ibrahim, 2010). Everyone feels anger at one time or another, and everyone handles it different. We can usually tell when someone is angry by noting their facial expressions or body language (Katz, 08).
