Week #4 Assignment

Police officers are part of an organizational culture which is the behavior of humans who are part of an organization and the meanings that the people attach to their actions. Culture includes the organization values, visions, norms, working language, systems, symbols, beliefs and habits (Ruggiero 2008). In the tutorial, there were many things that the police did wrong. One of the thing the police did wrong was they picked up the juveniles without reading there rights. Another thing the detective did wrong was they also conducted the interview without the permission of the parent, nor did they have the parents present during the interrogation. In addition, the interrogation was conducted without the presents of a video camera or recording devise. As a ethical and moral person I would chose to challenge my partner in the scenario.

One reason why I chose to challenge my partner is because I would be part of an organizational culture where we belong to a group that works for a greater good. My morals and ethics would play a major role in helping my detective partner do the job correct and in the most ethical way. Since I chose to challenge my partner, I would remind him why the laws and procedure are in place. I would also remind my partner that he is my partner and that we are part of an organization that requires to up hold the law and do things the ethical and moral way. By challenging my partner, I am able to tell him of the things he did wrong during the interview process.

One of the things the detective did wrong was conduct the interview without having read the juveniles their rights and having their parents present during the interrogation. People have the right to a lawyer and to defend themselves. These are the basis of our constitution, people have the rights to defend themselves no matter what.
