Logistics can be defined as the management of the flow of products from starting point to final destination. This means that your resources or products are monitored from when they come off the line until they are in your customers hands. Riordan Manufacturing is no different than any other business out there, they must make sure that all of their resources are being tracked and procedures documented in all of their plants in order to maintain quality control and that they are staying on track with company goals.

The first step in the process is the plant must receive raw materials delivered by truck from each of its plants. Before the delivery is complete the driver must present a Shipping Area Supervisor with the correct shipping documents to make sure that it coincides the scheduled orders receiving report. Each week a receiving report is sent to the receiving supervisor and the orders are arranged by date. Finally the last step in the Receiving Process is after the day is over the Receiving Supervisor hands their report to an inventory clerk enters the information into the inventory system, which includes materials received, the amount and the vendor.

Now that all the materials have been deliver and logged, it is time for them to be used to make products for the company. Anything that is used in a manufacturing run and the amount must be documented by the inventory clerk on a raw material usage form. After the process is over the inventory clerk enters the materials used into the inventory system. Finally at the end of use usage day, the manufacturing team gives a form to the inventory clerk that states the sub- assembles and final products completed for the day.

Now that the materials have been delivered and documented, products have been made, naturally it is time for final products to be shipped to buyers. The Sales Department completes sales orders and enter them into the customer shipping and billing system. Once all orders are taken and...
