King Tutankhamun was known as one of the best known pharaohs of ancient Egypt. Tutankhamun was only a pharaoh for about a decade, 8 to 9 years, before he passed away at such a young age, and why? During this time as a pharaoh, Tutankhamun accomplished little, but the discovery of his nearly intact tomb in 1922 has led many to unravel the theories to his life and death to be amazing. There have been many debates among scientists and historians on how Tutankhamun died since he died so young, whether it was of natural causes, an accident or murder. The truth about what really happened is still not known to this day.

The “mystery” and the theories about King Tutankhamun’s death is an open topic among scientists and historian’s. Some will argue King Tutankhamun was likely murdered due to greed and power among others. (“King Tut One”, 2013) Some believe he fell from his chariot or died from an illness or infection. (“King Tut One”, 2013) If King Tut was murdered, some research and evidence point to a few limited servants that could have been responsible for his death. (“King Tut One” 2013) Their motives were likely centered on greed or the changing environment Akhenaten (King Tut’s father) had created upon his death. (“King Tut One”, 2013)

King Tutankhamun was the son of, Akhenaten, who pushed the idea of worshiping one god from the practice of worshiping many gods. When Akhenaten acquired the throne, he changed the way many Egyptians thought during that time and it forced them to shut down many temples and revert to his way of religion, which was not heard of at that time. This mostly created a hostile environment and when Akhenaten died, King Tutankhamun was only a child and most likely did not have the knowledge to run Egypt. This would have meant that more experienced persons of King Tut would have helped him—mainly Ay and Horemheb.
