College Dorm, Student Housing or Apartment

The college dorm is the most conventional style of living for beginning and first time college students. Most parents prefer college dorms mainly because of the safety, surroundings, and dorms provide an easier access to campus. To include the library, student centers, computer labs, and most dorms have wireless access to the internet. On the flip side, dorms can be a bit cramped with the small size rooms. These small rooms are often shared with other students with different habits than you. They may be a tough place to study and may provide a lack of privacy in terms of communal bathrooms and lounges. Room mates are often times from different back grounds and may not share the same goals in terms of educational willingness. However, to most students the dorm life is a conventional part of college and would not miss it for the world until they are just fed up.

Off campus, apartment housing may not be conducive for students with transportation and security issues. Most Universities have a campus police department to handle all security issues on and around portions of campus. When a student chooses to move off campus their security becomes that of the local police and apartment security if available. There is a considerable amount of risk a student assumes when moving off campus in terms of security. Much consideration in transportation should be given when moving off campus. Transportation becomes an issue if housing is not in walking or biking distance from campus, and the student is not in the possession of an automobile or bicycle. When considering off campus housing students should ensure the housing at a minimum is located on a bus route.
