The Matrix from the point of view of Nietzsche

I am going to analyze the movie Matrix with Nietzsche’s On Truth and Lie in a Nonmoral Sense. According to Nietzsche, the objective of truth is critical. Since he states that there is not a single truth, the concept of truth becomes complex.

In the movie, it is accepted that there is a two different life. When we examine the live of the character Neo. In one life he is Thomas Anderson who is a white-collar programmer. On the other hand, he is Neo, the One, who is curious about to find the answer of what the Matrix is. However, which one of them is the reality is a suspicious concept. According to Nietzsche reality changes from the point of view, changes by the time people are living in, changes by the situation people dealing with. That’s why the leading character Neo supports the idea that the real life is Matrix, because the life everyone leads and he exists as Thomas Anderson does not satisfy him. He has a job that he is not pleased, he does not have friends to hang out. In such a situation the reality for him derives to Matrix.

The movie introduces two opposite pole lives to the audience. By looking from the Nietzsche’s point of view it is impossible to state one as reality. For Neo, the reality could be Matrix because it is the place that he feels he is a part of. So that Matrix is the reality of the Neo and his friends.

The other thing is that, Nietzsche states that the consequence of the natural selection of the weak is the race of supermen. According to him such a race does not only consist of the physical power and perfection but also consist of the strength of characteristics, strength of the moral values and perfection. The natural selection of the movie is the conflict between the artificial intelligence and nobility. The consequence of the conflict will be the ones who are virtuous.
