The Metamorphosis is a critical novel by Franz Kafka through which he uses his black comedy to satirize our modern life which is full of social problems. Kafka manages through his matchless style, language, symbols, characters and themes to shed light on our recent social problems in an attempt to help us to live in a more peaceful, healthy life.

The metamorphosis is probably the best known story by the German Jewish writer Franz Kafka. What distinguish this novel is its central situation that depends on the story of the transformation of a man into an insect. Gregor's first interest is his work. He becomes more worried that he will miss his train and be late for work. Out of his hatred to his job as a salesman, he expresses his boredom of his job, his employer and the whole life that forces him to work such a job only to be able to pay off his family's debtse. As soon as Gregor's family see him, they get shocked. All what concerns Gregor at this moment is to assure to them, especially to his chief clerk that he is all right and that he is going dress up and be on his way to work. But the clerk becomes very frightened and runs away from the house, exactly as his mother. The only person who manages to collect himself is his father who drives him back into his room. After a short time the family seems to be accustomed the new situation. Nobody seems to care about Gregor but his younger sister who uses to support him with food, but after a short time she gets bored and starts to ignore him.

Gregor's mother also becomes very sad to see him in such horrible shape. Even his father refuses to let him go out of his room and finally throws him with apples which causes him great injuries that lasts for more than a month. During this period, all his family members were forced to find jobs to support themselves and start to neglect him completely. Even his room ends up as a storage room to make space for the three lodgers who rent part of the house in order to help...
