Project Management Institute’s Project of the Year Award

Even though project management differ from company to company, the Project Management Institute (PMI) honors companies and publicize the accomplishments of the PMI Project of the Year Award (POY), along with its project team, for superior performance of project management. If not planned correctly, a project can definitely turn into a disaster, but if managed correctly, can definitely change the entire dynamics of a company. PMI, encourage company everywhere to participate and a great aspect of the competition is that a company does not have to have an affiliation with PMI to participate. Projects within either the public or private sector of any size, type, and or industry are eligible to participate in the competition and according to PMI, the project must be perceived as having exemplarily applied project management principles and techniques but they must meet certain key criteria’s of PMI in order to compete in the competition.

The first factor of competing in the competition is that the project must have an approved scope, schedule, and budget; completed on or ahead of schedule and completed at or below budget; the Client/Owner must provide a letter on corporate letterhead, which states that the project was essentially complete during the previous calendar year, accepted as complete by the Client/Owner prior to nomination, met or exceeded its stated objectives, and provided consent to nominate the project for the POY Award as well as will support and cooperate in all phases of the nomination process, up to and including the possible receipt of the PMI Project of the Year Award.
