Technology is necessary for youth today as it has become an essential of everyday life of an individual. A person who is well conversant and up-to-date with the newest technology has an array of opportunities. This is similar in case with the children. Children who are technologically knowledgeable find it easier to compete in life. The need to know how to use these tools will become essential to staying competitive later in life. Computers are here to stay so the need to know how is very important so that the youth does not fall behind.

While using the computer opens a world of possibilities for children, exposure to dangers are a serious threat as they surf the Internet. It is a recommendation that children not place to much personal information out for others to use, e.g., do not give out age, address or phone numbers. Sexual Predators are individuals who spend an enormous amount of time, energy, and money to attempt sexually to exploit children. Some indicators that children may be at risk online are; the child is spending an unusual amount of time online, or finding pornography on the child’s computer, the child receives phones calls, mail or gifts from strange men. The child may also turn off the monitor or changes screens when a person enters the room. Another indicator is that the child becomes withdrawn from the family, and uses an account the belonging to somebody else (FBI). To minimize the chances of children becoming victims the Federal Bureau of Investigation recommends speaking with children about the potential online dangers and predators; interact and surf the Internet with them, and keep the computer in a common room to monitor the content of what the child is viewing.
