Part 2 – Quote Identification

| Quotation | Page # | Significance / Reason I chose this passage |

1.{done} | “It is about being alone when you are not really alone and about being scared all the time.” | Page # 4 | The Significance of the quote is that even though you are in jail with other people, you are still alone and that it is not easy being alone. Even if he was not alone physically, he felt alone emotionally. He was feeling isolated and frightened when he was in jail. There is no one there to comfort him, no one will listen to him, he is all on his own. |

2.{done} | "Ain't no use putting the blanket over your head, man. You can't cut this out; this is reality. This is the real deal." | Page # 7 | The blanket symbolizes comfort and safety and reality. Reality of the world as it really is rather than as you might want it to be. The quote tells us that no matter what you think or desire of the reality to be, it is going to be as it really is. Steve tries to hide his head under a blanket to avoid going to the first day of trial. He didn’t want to face the reality. He is trying to avoid reality. |

4. | “When she left and I had to go back to the cell area, I was more depressed than I have been since I’ve been here. I wish Jerry were here. Not in jail, but somehow with me. What would I say to him? Think about all the tomorrows of your life. Yes, that is what I would say.” | | |

5.{done} | “My job is to make sure the law works for you as well as against you, and to make you a human being in the eyes of the jury.” | Page # 16 | Steve’s lawyer Mrs. O’Brien said the prosecutor related him to the people who actually killed Mr.Nesbitt and she...
