Thinking and Decision Making

The process and skills that it takes to make a holistic decision, especially in the workplace can only productively occur if a set cycle of decision-making steps is used. There are three different types of thinking skills that guide the process of making a decision. The three types of thinking include creative, logical, and persuasive. Creative thinking is one of the highest levels of cognitive development. To process the skills needed to think creatively, one must simultaneously develop the possession of attitude, ability, and process. When these three areas are in alignment, creativity is inevitable. Logical thinking however, occurs when reasoning is consistently used to guide a decision. In addition to the two thinking areas above business personals should also use persuasive thinking, which is a skill that can help with the acquisition of critical thinking. The art of Persuasive thinking teaches people the skills they need to create solutions to their dilemmas rather than analyze the guidance given to them by others. Each of these thinking proficiencies affects our critical thinking abilities in a variety of different ways. Through the examination of the effects of critical-thinking in the workplace the similarities and differences involved in this process of thinking will be explained.

Persuasive thinking is interpreted as persuading another to accept our ideas. Persuasion is difficult to accomplish, but can be done successfully when all information presented is clear and correct. Persuasive thinking in the critical-thinking process can be described as one having their own solutions or suggestions and persuading in their favor instead of using the ideas or messages of others.
