Part 1

In my opinion the United States is doing what they can in order to reach food security. Food security is allowing everyone to have access for enough food for them to have an active and healthy live. (Food Security in the U.S., 2013). In all honesty how is it possible for the United States to ensure that everyone has food? Yes there are options such as food stamps, food pantries, and churches that are available to those who are in need. The population in the United States seems to be growing at such a fast rate that I don’t think it will ever be possible to ensure everyone has access to enough food for themselves or their families at all times. I do not think that it will be possible for the United States to help other nations meet food security. Again this is because there is an abundance of people within the United States and in other nations that it is not something that can be guaranteed. In my personal opinion some things that could be done to reach global food security could be to decrease the prices of food, or working with individuals and teach them to harvest their own crops. It can be cheaper and easier for people to grow things like corn, potatoes, and vegies then it is to purchase them from a grocery store.

Part 2

The item that I chose was shurfine peeled baby carrots. This particular item is manufactured in Portland Oregon which is 3,060.9 miles (1 day 20 hrs) from Newport Vermont.

Now when looking at buying local I feel that it is always best to buy local. This is not only because it benefits all of the local vendors but it is better for the environment because there would not be as many trucks transporting. Although I feel this would be best sometimes it isn’t possible for people to do so and it is easier to purchase things that are imported due to the fact that it is cheaper in price to do so. Many local vendors charge more for their items and with the economy not the greatest some cannot manage to spend a little extra....
