School Waste Reduction and Recycling Education and Awareness Campaign “Reduce Your Waste and Recycle Your Plastics Campaign 2012”

1. Objectives 1.1 In order to develop a recycling habit among students and to enhance their knowledge of recycling of waste plastics, the Environmental Protection Department (EPD), the Environmental Campaign Committee (ECC), the Education Bureau (EDB) and the Yan Oi Tong EcoPark Plastic Resources Recycling Centre (YOT PRRC) jointly organize the “Reduce Your Waste and Recycle Your Plastics Campaign 2012” (the Campaign hereafter) for schools. The Campaign aims to: cultivate and sustain the behavioural change of students on waste reduction and recycling; inculcate the message on waste reduction (e.g. food waste reduction) and proper recycling of unavoidable waste; encourage students to share the idea of waste reduction and recovery with their families; and invite students and parents to participate in the Campaign.

2. Period 2.1 Awards will be presented to schools based on their performance on promoting waste reduction and source separation of unavoidable waste plastics from 1 Oct 2012 to 31 Jul 2013.

3. Eligibility 3.1 All primary and secondary schools will be cordially invited to take part in the Campaign. Schools joining in the first phase of the Campaign will be automatically enrolled in the second phase of the Campaign.

4. Details and Support 4.1 Through a race, the Campaign encourages students to reduce and recycle the unavoidable waste. Students are encouraged to bring the unavoidable waste plastic bottles to school in support of source separation and plastic recycling. The proposed implementation schedule
